"Tanya Minhas was born in Multan during a black out. She was born to a family of artists and athletes, a cricket player father, and an artist/sprinter mother. After leaving Pakistan to attend undergraduate studies in the United States, she has made her home in New York City. After graduating from Princeton University with a Bachelors of Art in International Affairs and Public Policy/Woodrow Wilson School, she spent some time working at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
She moved shortly after to New York City, and in 1995 started a PHD program at Columbia University, focusing on Classical Persian Poetry, and Urdu/Sufi Poetry. In 1998, she received her MBA from the Business School at Columbia University.
In 2001, she founded Plum Collection, a line of one–of-a-kind women’s clothing that was sold through Sorelle Firenze, in Tribeca. This evolved into Honey Collection New York in 2003, a specialty line of handmade children’s clothing, sold at luxury retailers including Barneys, Scoop Kids, and Capucine’s.
Tanya started Tanya Minhas Studio in 2012, as a space for her various artistic expressions – painting, drawing, textile designs - to come together. She has for the past year focused mainly on in-situ art installations.
Her most recent body of work explores the etheric nature of American Wild Flowers, and is a tribute and expression of wonder at the rugged spirit of creation and of natural ephemeral beauty showing itself in unexpected places."
